This website, james-allen.ca, is owned and operated by James Allen, a freelance web designer and developer based in Calgary, Alberta. I am responsible for the personal information collected through this website.
This policy explains what information is collected, why it is used, which service providers may process it, the choices available to you, and how to exercise your privacy rights.
I collect information you choose to provide when you contact me, book a consultation, or submit the pre-consultation questionnaire. Depending on how you interact with the site, this may include:

This information is not necessarily anonymous. It may be pseudonymous or associated by a provider with a browser, device, account, or other information, depending on that provider's settings and policies.
I use the following providers to operate this website. They process information according to their own terms and privacy notices and, where applicable, on my instructions.
Google Analytics helps measure visits and site usage. Google may receive the page URL, IP address, browser and device information, cookie or device identifiers, and interaction data. Depending on your Google settings, Google may associate information from this visit with other activity or account information. I do not intentionally send names, email addresses, questionnaire responses, or a custom user ID to Google Analytics. Ahrefs provides aggregate website traffic and referral reporting and may process IP address, device and browser information, page visits, referral URLs, timestamps, and identifiers. Review the Ahrefs Privacy Policy.
Calendly provides the consultation booking calendar and processes the contact and meeting information you enter when scheduling. Its embedded widget may also receive technical usage information. Review the Calendly Privacy Notice.
The questionnaire uses Google reCAPTCHA to detect abuse. Google may receive technical and interaction information when reCAPTCHA loads. Questionnaire responses are sent to me by email through Brevo. Review Google's Privacy Policy and Terms, and the Brevo Privacy Policy.
Vercel hosts and delivers the website. It may process request logs, IP address, approximate location, device information, diagnostics, and security data needed to provide and protect the service. Review the Vercel Privacy Notice.
Google Analytics, Ahrefs, Calendly, and their providers may use cookies or similar technologies. Google Analytics is configured to load only in production after your first interaction with the site. Calendly loads when its booking calendar comes into view, and reCAPTCHA loads when you interact with the questionnaire.
You can block or delete cookies and restrict third-party scripts through your browser settings. Blocking them will not prevent you from viewing the main site, although the booking calendar or questionnaire protection may not function. You can instead contact me directly by email or telephone.
You can also install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before the withdrawal.
I do not sell or rent your personal information. Information is disclosed only to the service providers described above as needed to operate the site and respond to you, when you direct or consent to the disclosure, or when required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, and security.
Some providers process information outside Canada, including in the United States, the European Union, and other jurisdictions. Information processed abroad may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions and may be accessible to courts, law enforcement, or regulatory authorities there.
Inquiry, booking, and questionnaire information is kept only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, prepare proposals, provide services, maintain appropriate business records, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Security rate-limiting data derived from an IP address is held temporarily in server memory and normally expires within five minutes.
Analytics, hosting logs, and information held by service providers are retained according to the applicable account settings, operational needs, and provider policies. When information is no longer required, I delete it or take reasonable steps to have it deleted or de-identified, subject to legal and backup requirements.
I use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information, including encrypted HTTPS connections, access controls, input validation, rate limiting, and spam protection. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

This site and its services are intended for businesses and adults. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact me so I can take appropriate steps to remove it.
